Cooling Tower Fan Blades
SPX Cooling Technologies is a leading full-line, full-service cooling tower and air-cooled condenser manufacturer. Ernest-Spencer provides specialty fabrication services to support their own manufacturing capabilities.
The Situation
SPX was searching for a domestic fabricator with the capability to machine its cooling tower fan blades. Additionally, SPX desired a stocking program with weekly on-site inventory replenishment, and built-in process redundancy that would ensure no down-time in their work schedule.
The E-S Approach
To meet the needs of SPX, Ernest-Spencer developed special tooling and fixturing to produce fan blades. A new automated machining center was procured to efficiently fabricate the complex shape of the blades. To ensure consistent price and availability of raw materials, a consignment program was negotiated with vendors. To promote efficiency and product integrity in manufacturing, shipping and storage, custom racks were built to hold the product. E-S also established an efficient delivery schedule to SPX.
The Result
